So this new years, my mom made me donate money to buy a random Hmong CD (that she nor I had no interest in; i've still yet to hear it). It wasn't until then that i realized that I've never bought a Hmong album out of new, pure interest (with the exception of Sounders-- in their case, it's because i know their repertoire; their music would somehow make its way to my taste). Lightofday's first album sparked that for me. And this is my favorite track. Do support the independent artists and Nhia Chang, the awesome songwriter/producer.

... Invisible workers. Volunteer labour. What powerful [and alerting] terms to tag onto the work of fansubbers. But it's true, it's all about invisible work and volunteer labour. We definitely have a large and diverse community of subbers, both family and independent groups. It's just like any industry; there's competition, yet some basis of solidarity; there's energy, excitement, and stress! So, i thought i'd share a cute parody of what can contribute to the stress in the process of fansub productions:

There were four people called Everybody,
Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was
an important job to be done. Everybody was
sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody
could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it

There's currently a research study on the fansub community by York University. It's a vibrant, but un-tapped community, and something i greatly appreciate and am a part of. So, i can't wait to read all about their findings!

And so, like this man, i am the luckiest person today. I have a loving family who i can put my full trust in, who goes out of their way to make sure i stay alive. I have friends who comfort me with words, who shares with me stories that have a greater meaning. I have God, who watches over me and all my loved ones, helping me to get through this... And to think that i was calling for my superman. You can take your time dear, because today~ today, i'm still the luckiest person because i have with me my family, friends, and God.
